FDA Research can help you find diet drugs that are safe without any known adverse effects on the body. Unfortunately many diet pills are not approved by the FDA and should not be used. You can use the FDA research tool to ensure that the diet pills that you have purchased have been deemed safe.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find the FDA website. Click on the link to be directed to the section of the site that gives out information for consumers.

  2. Step 2

Type in the name of the diet pill (if you know it) in the provided search box. Prescription and over-the-counter medications can both be researched.

  3. Step 3

Go to the list of approved medications. If you would rather browse a list of approved medications, then go to the "A-Z Index." In this section, you can find all of the drugs that have been researched by the FDA.

  4. Step 4

Look under the section "Treatments for Medical Problems." This is going to link you to an area of the FDA site that you can use to research drugs that are approved for use in treating obesity.

  5. Step 5

Read the summary of the drug. Once you find a drug that you are interested in taking, you can print out all of the information that appears on the page. This includes active ingredient, approval history, label information and other important information from the FDA.

Tips & Warnings
  • You should take all of the information that you printed out to your doctor and ask their opinion regarding the diet pill you have decided on.
  • Right now there are very few over-the-counter diet pills approved by the FDA for weight loss. The most popular brand is Alli.
