Tooth whitening is a great way to put your teeth back to their original look. Babies have pretty, white teeth. It is only when people grow up that they start to have stains and discoloration on their teeth. Coffee, tea, medications and smoking cause stains on the natural veneer of teeth, as does aging. The tooth whitening process, though, is very expensive.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check out various dental plans to consider the coverage. You may have to purchase specific tooth whitening insurance. It covers a percentage of the costs to have the procedure done and can be used at only specific clinics.

  2. Step 2

Dental insurance you have from work is the first place to check. Review the policy to see what they have to say about tooth whitening.

  3. Step 3

Learn what insurance supplements will enhance your current policy. Dental policies do not generally provide coverage of tooth whitening procedures.

  4. Step 4

Provide the reason that tooth whitening will add to your sense of self worth when you talk to the dental insurance company about coverage. Since this coverage is most often not covered, they will have to be convinced. Even then, you will need to show that chemicals stained your teeth and tooth whitening will permanently change these circumstances.

Tips & Warnings
  • As with any dental insurance, compare the cost of the insurance with the amount you would pay for the procedure outright. If you pay more for the dental insurance premium plus your co pay, it doesn't make sense to go this way.
