If you practice acupuncture or plan to learn this alternative medical practice, then you need to buy a set of the needles to use on patients. If you have never bought acupuncture needles, you may be unsure of how to choose from the options available.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get a bulk order. If you plan to practice acupuncture often, then you are going to need a large amount of acupuncture needles. The typical box is going to come with more than 100 needles.

  2. Step 2

Buy from a trusted brand. SEIRIN is one of the best makers of safe and painless acupuncture needles. Their needles are sterilized and used by many practitioners of acupuncture.

  3. Step 3

Look for a needle that provides painless insertion for the patient. Activa has a line of acupuncture needles that have been designed to reduce the amount of pain that is experienced by the patient. If a patient is in pain, then it interrupts their energy flow and the acupuncture is ineffective.

  4. Step 4

Choose color coded needles. Needles with a color coded tip can allow you to be aware of the different sizes of the needles by simply glancing at the color.

  5. Step 5

Purchase needles that are not coated in silicon. Silicon can cause an allergic reaction in a patient. Get a silicon free type instead.

  6. Step 6

Order acupuncture needles online. Once you decide on the type that you want to order, go online to Lhasa Oms or HBW Supply to place your final order.

Tips & Warnings
  • You should have completed a training program before you attempt to use acupuncture needles in any sort of therapy.
  • There are two different handles for acupuncture needles: metal and plastic. Choose the type based on your preferences.

on 1/5/2008 1. in Step 5, you recommended that don't buy the silicon coating needles but SEIRIN needles are silicon coating.

2. In the Step 6, you recommended HBW Supply. The needles of their "A.Point", "Acupro A-Type" can't be found in the FDA web site. Don't know if they are qualified by the FDA 510(K). Your web site should remind the buyer to purchase the qualified needles.

3. There are new environmental friendly needles with good tip quality on the market now.
