The AFMA, Americans for Medical Advancement, is an organization which has the primary goal of educating the public on medical research practices. Members believe the government is poorly spending medical research dollars and are placing citizens at risk. Members feel many drugs in the marketplace are unhealthy and dangerous, despite many of these drugs working in animal-related testing..

Instructions

Step1
Go to the AFMA website: http://www.curedisease.com/donate.html. There are two main ways to volunteer with the AFMA. You can either volunteer for a Support Task, or you can volunteer for Research Tasks.
Step2
Look into the different support tasks. They include: arranging debates, fundraising, asking doctors and veterinarians to allow you to place brochures in their waiting rooms, arranging meetings with influential people and arranging television and radio interviews. If you feel you have the qualifications or influence to help in one or more of these areas, they would like to talk to you.
Step3
Look into the different research tasks. They include: giving presentations at colleges and high schools, tracking research trends, reviewing scientific abstracts, correlating data from public databases and searching literature.
Step4
Read the following books if you feel your skills match the criteria to do research tasks: "Sacred Cows and Golden Geese" by Greek and Greek, "Specious Science" by Greek and Greek, "Brute Science" by LaFollette and Shanks, "Toxic Sludge Is Good For You" by Rampton and Stauber and "Trust Us! We're Experts" by Rampton and Stauber.

Get thoroughly acquainted with the Americans for Medical Advancement website.

Tips & Warnings

  • Research assistants are evaluated closely, and interviews are sometimes mandatory before being admitted to volunteer.
