In ice hockey players must be ready for any type of situation. The 1 on 2 offense is not one of the preferred offensive situations but it is an option if it fits the situation. The 1 on 2 offense is when an offensive player squares off with two defensive players. Only use this play when there are no other options.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Skate in between the two defenders, if possible. This works best when the two defenders are parallel to each other. They may get confused about which player they are supposed to be defending. If this is not an option try to go wide to avoid both players.

  2. Step 2

Avoid being challenged by any defensemen. A break-away move may be your best option in this scenario. If you are able to break away, get the puck as deep as possible into the end zone before being challenged.

  3. Step 3

Get to the blue line and wait for other offensive players if a break away is not possible. In some situations it may be impossible to get around or through the other defenders. Getting support from your team may be the only answer.

  4. Step 4

Control your stick movement and your puck. Keep your stick as close to you as possible. This makes it harder for the defensive players to steal the puck from you. Keep in mind where the defensemen may be to avoid being checked. Getting checked is when another player skates into you and makes you lose your position on the ice. This is similar to a tackle in American football.
