Why not try making a gourmet gift basket for a unique Mother's Day gift this year? Your mother would really love a basket you put together yourself with her in mind. The art of making gift baskets is not difficult. You just have to know the person, pick out a special basket, add some personalized items (along with a little love) and decorate it a little.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Gourmet food items
  • Basket
  • Flowers, colorful paper and craft items
  1. Step 1

Start with the basket. Go to a crafts store and pick out a basket your mother will use even after she dismantles the gift. There are even collapsible and folding baskets available. Choose the basket in her favorite color and materials. If possible, choose a theme or design that copies her interests.

  2. Step 2

Think gourmet. You don't have to make the foods, but let your imagination run wild with ideas on gourmet items for a gift basket. Look at some of the ideas others have done to make your own creation. French and Canadian cheeses along with exotic coffees are easy to find.

  3. Step 3

Seek out unique ingredients to put into the basket as decoration such as balsa wood cutouts of animals or fruit. Add colorful foil paper and bright tissue paper for decoration as well as unusual gourmet items you find available in specialty food shops.

  4. Step 4

Remember to find specific ideas that center around your mother's favorite things. Look for gourmet sausages, cheese, cookies and chocolates to add. You might even try adding a short poem to the basket that comes from your heart. She will be touched and may become emotional.

  5. Step 5

Look through the websites listed in the Resources section for ideas on how to put your Mother's Day basket together. Try to add scented candles, keepsakes and spa products.
