How to Plan a Bible Study Camping Trip

When you're looking for new ways to study the Word of God, consider planning a bible study camping trip for the families in your church. In the great outdoors, close to nature, the perfect setting exists to share fellowship and scripture.

Instructions

    • 1

Plan the camping trip for your church's youth group. Kids love camping and you will be combining outdoor activities with scriptural lessons. For the best results, choose stories that relate to the wilderness: Jesus' 40-day wandering or the story of Moses as a baby, to allow the kids to imagine how it might have felt in those days.

    • 2

Ask other churches to participate by sending kids that are the same age. They will have to provide their own chaperones, too, but combining with others to learn the Word of God teaches the kids what being a Christian is all about.

    • 3

Choose your camping site well in advance, especially if the group is a large one. During warm weather, popular sites, such as lakes and national forests, fill up quickly. Call ahead to see if you can reserve an area large enough to accommodate your whole group.

    • 4

Set up a camping trip for grownups for retreat-style fellowship. Like-minded adults from your church or a number of churches can come together under the stars for a bible study that you'll treasure for years.

    • 5

Collect a fee from all members to pay for food and the required camping fees. Part of organizing this kind of bible study trip is the desire to create the spirit of community between believers. Ask for commitments to prepare the meals on a rotating basis and other chores.

    • 6

Schedule and include some fun. Bring along bathing suits, hiking boots, volleyball nets and any other equipment to make the camping trip fun for everyone.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure plenty of parents are on hand to help cook and chaperone if the camping trip will be for a youth group.

  • Don't forget to bring along the insect repellent and a First Aid Kit. Be sure someone in the group has a cell phone in case of emergency.
