Step 1
Contact your local Chamber of Commerce to find out where you can pick up an application for entry into the parade. Call well in advance since there may be a deadline for entry forms. There may also be a required fee.
-
Step 2
Plan to follow a parade theme, if there is one. Some communities select a different patriotic theme each year and colors to represent the festivities. Plan your entry accordingly.
-
Step 3
Recruit plenty of help if you are planning to build a large float. You will need to locate a flatbed trailer and a method of pulling it. Extra hands make designing the structure and attending to the details much easier.
-
Step 4
Pay attention to parade lineup times and try to be early. If the procession starts and you're not there yet, they won't wait for you. All entries will proceed in a predetermined order.
-
Step 5
Consider throwing deflated balloons, printed with a Memorial Day symbol to the parade watchers. Have a few pedestrians from your group walk on either side of the float to keep the children from running into the street.
-
Step 6
Request that your parade participants remain on their best behavior during and after the parade. Memorial Day is a time to show respect and pride for our fallen veterans.
