Memorial Day is set aside to remember the heroes who have died in the service of the nation. The American flag display is one of the most important symbols of this federal holiday. There are specific guidelines to follow when you decide to display the American flag.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Fly your American flag at half-staff until noon on Memorial Day. To do this, you first hoist it to the top of the pole for an instant, and then lower it to the half-staff position until noon. After the noon hour, raise the flag back to the peak of the pole.

  2. Step 2

Place the American flag at the center and at the highest peak when displayed with other flags. Always raise it first and lower it last, hoisting it quickly and lowering it ceremoniously.

  3. Step 3

Display the American flag on a staff, if you want to use it on a float. If you display it on a car, secure the staff to the right fender. Do not drape the flag over the vehicle or float. If you display the flag from a windowsill or the front of your house, place the union of the flag (the blue part) at the peak of the staff unless it is at half-staff.
