Cinco de Mayo is celebrated every year on the 5th of May. It celebrates the overwhelming victory of 4,000 Mexican soldiers over a combined force of 8,000 French and Mexican soldiers in 1862. Fiestas honoring Cinco de Mayo are becoming more popular in many countries outside of Mexico. If you are invited to a Cinco de Mayo fiesta, it is easy to decide how to dress.

Instructions

    Wear a Costume

  1. Step 1

Dress as your favorite Mexican revolutionary. Don a large sombrero, large black moustache, dark shirt with bandoliers and white pants to look like Pancho Villa. Add a rifle and bottle of tequila for authenticity.

  2. Step 2

Wrap yourself in a red scarf to look like Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Add red flowers to your hair and draw on a dark monobrow. Dark red lips will complete this look.

  3. Step 3

Don a white shirt, black pants and a large sombrero to impersonate a Mexican musician. Fold a striped serape in half, throw it over your shoulder and carry a guitar or an accordion to complete the look.

  4. Wear Mexican Clothing

  5. Step 1

Buy a white blouse that can be worn off your shoulder. Add a brightly colored full skirt that reaches your ankles. Then pull your hair back, tie it with bright ribbons and you're dressed for your Cinco de Mayo fiesta.

  6. Step 2

Pull on loose pants, a white shirt and a colorful serape for a man's Cinco de Mayo costume. Add a sombrero and perhaps a pistol and you are ready to celebrate.

  7. Step 3

Look for a pair of huaraches. These leather sandals are comfortable enough to wear while you dance the night away and still maintain your traditional Mexican fiesta look.
