When you buy a Sirius radio, you may choose to install the receiver yourself. This can save you a lot of money since installing a satellite radio in a vehicle is not that difficult. The installation process is likely to take less than half an hour to complete.

From Quick Guide: Car Satellite Radios
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Mount the Sirius receiver in the vehicle. Most satellite radio owners choose to mount it on the windshield using the provided suction cups that come with the radio. The radio should not obstruct your view while driving.

  2. Step 2

Choose an area on your vehicle that you wish to mount the antenna. The ideal place is a location that is not going to be obstructed. Place the antenna on the spot. It is magnetic, so it will hold itself down.

  3. Step 3

Run the antenna cable through the car's interior from the outside. You do this by running the antenna underneath the rubber molding of your car's back window. It is then going to run through the trunk into the passenger compartment.

  4. Step 4

Plug the antenna into the Sirius receiver. The antenna output is likely to be labeled on the model.

  5. Step 5

Take the adapter included with the receiver and plug it in. The receiver should power up and show that it has a signal.

  6. Step 6

Activate your Sirius subscription. After you have completed installation, call the number that appears on the receiver to start listening to Sirius radio.

Tips & Warnings
  • The antenna should be mounted at least 6 inches away from the windshield. It should also be a big enough area to make sure that the antenna is going to stay mounted.
  • Look on the Sirius website for instructions on how to install the satellite radio into your specific vehicle type.
