Research 1930s gangster life and times. You will need to know a little about the time to incorporate some truths into your party theme. Look at the dress during the 1930s and require costumes of your guests, check out the favorite foods at the time and research what the inside of a speakeasy looked like for the party decor.

Think of original decorations. Copy and blow up pictures from 1930s newspapers that depicted gangsters or their lives. This can be old movie posters, such as "The Public Enemy" and "Scarface," enlarged newspaper photos or other pictures available during that time.
