Your skin is one of the first things people see when they meet you; therefore, it is vital that you maintain a clear and healthy complexion. According to Ayurveda, maintaining a healthy complexion starts on the inside through proper nutrition and care.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Eat according to your dosha. Vata people should include oils in their diet to minimize dry skin, while Pitta people should avoid hot and spicy food to minimize skin eruptions.

  2. Step 2

Integrate green leafy vegetables into your diet. These have antioxidants that purify your skin. Also, add fresh fruits such as grapes, apples, melons and pears.

  3. Step 3

Incorporate spices according to your dosha. All doshas benefit from cumin and coriander. Vatas should add black pepper, ginger and turmeric. Pittas should use fennel and licorice. Kaphas should integrate pepper, ginger, cloves and turmeric.

  4. Step 4

Drink herbal teas made with spices specific to your dosha. Vata drinks should be warm water, while Kapha drinks should be hot. Pittas should drink cool to room-temperature drinks.

  5. Step 5

Treat dry skin with daily warm oil facial massage and moisturizer. Kapha people should be careful not to use too much moisturizer since it is more likely to clog Kapha skin.

  6. Step 6

Cleanse skin, especially Kapha skin, which produces excess oil. Exfoliate after cleansing. Pitta people should be careful not to irritate skin with exfoliation.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use ghee, known as clarified butter, in your cooking. Ghee is full of natural oil that lubricates the skin.
  • Don't eat heavy or fried foods.
  • Don't microwave or boil your vegetables since the heat kills the beneficial antioxidants.
