Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Understand that if you go out on the Internet unaware and look at sales copy and promises of making lots of money using this or that program, you may get yourself in deep water. Buyer beware as you look for the right and legitimate opportunities.
Step2
Start conservatively and keep that credit card frozen until you have educated yourself on the medical billing business.
Step3
Go to the bookstore or library and check out one or two books on medical billing. Find out if this is a business you really want to commit a number of years and money to.
Step4
Look for attractive sites with testimonials and contact information. Call four or five of the people and ask them questions about the training program, about software, about how much money they make, how much time it takes to learn the business, and what the biggest hurdles are in getting started.
Step5
Subscribe to a medical billing magazine. Look into the different software programs for billing. Research and learn, take a class and keep on this way for as long as you need to until you are comfortable with making a commitment and spending your money on a home-based medical billing business.
