How to Celebrate the End of Winter

Winter is a great time of year but in most areas this means many cold days which become tiring. The best ways to celebrate the end of winter is to make the best of spring. Choose an activity for yourself or the whole family and use these steps to get ideas on celebrating the end of one season and beginning of another.

Instructions

    • 1

Know when to start your celebrations. You can use the weather as a measure to know when winter is over or you can use the Spring Equinox as a marker which occurs in March. This is the date on which day and night is the same length of time.

    • 2

Get outside as often as possible. Walk your dog with a friend or with family, or take your other workouts outside or to a park. Take advantage of the longer days and improve your mood by being out in the sun.

    • 3

Work on your garden by adding new plants to it or plant some indoors if it is still too chilly for them to thrive outside. The growth of plants symbolizes new beginnings and fertility associated with spring.

    • 4

Plan a picnic for you and your spouse, family or with some friends. Make a group activity out of it by having everyone participate in bringing some food and grill outside even if winter has left the weather still cool.

    • 5

Have an activity day planned for your kids that helps them say goodbye to winter and hello to spring. Fly a kite if the weather cooperates, visit the zoo, have them help with planting your new bulbs or have them choose anything else that they like to do outside.

    • 6

Eat some warm weather foods and have beverages that remind you of warmer longer days. Lemonade or smoothies are great cooling drinks. Salads, fruits or other light foods can also get you in the mood for the end of winter.

Tips & Warnings

  • Plan ahead-don't wait for the actual start of spring to think about what you will do for the end of winter.

  • Get the family involved by asking them for more ideas for spring activities.
