Things You'll Need:
- Heart-shaped cake pan
- Round cake pan
- Square cake pan
- White cake mix
- Food coloring
- Icing
- Sugar cookies
-
Step 1
Bake the cake following the directions on the box or your recipe. Add food coloring to make batter red or pink depending on how much coloring you add.
-
Step 2
Create a heart-shaped cake using a heart-shaped pan if you have one. If not use a square pan and a round pan. Put all batter into the pan if you use a heart-shaped pan. If you use a round and square pan, put only half the batter into each pan.
-
Step 3
Remove the cake from their pans. If using two pans, turn the square cake so it resembles a diamond. Cut the round cake in half and place one piece on each side of the top half of the diamond cake to form a heart. If you bake the cake in a heart-shaped pan, then you already have a heart cake.
-
Step 4
Mix icing with food coloring to make light pink icing. Frost the cake with the icing.
-
Step 5
Decorate the cake with premade pink and white flowers. You can purchase the flowers at any cake supply store and some bakeries that specialize in cake decorating. Also cover heart-shaped sugar cookies with red or white icing and place them on the cake randomly to decorate.
-
Step 6
Add a happy couple or cupid figurines to the top of the cake to complete the Valentine's Day theme. Cake decorating items can be purchased from local grocery stores and bakeries or online at stores such as Pattycakes. Make your own figures out of sugar paste, gum paste or fondant by using any of Debbie Brown's books that teach you how to make whimsical people.
