Taking an advanced artists workshop can really define your skills as an artist. You can build upon your current knowledge by taking an advanced artists workshop. Follow these tips to successfully complete the workshop and walk away from it a much better artist.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Conduct an Internet search to find advanced workshops in your special area of art. Narrow your results by your region, training and goals as an advanced artist.

  2. Step 2

Read the syllabi and descriptions of different workshop courses.

  3. Step 3

Email the workshop instructor and ask for the names and contact information of former students. When you receive their information, contact the former students and inquire about their workshop experience. Make sure that the advanced artists workshops that they attended coincide with what you are looking for in a workshop.

  4. Step 4

Narrow down your results using the former students' feedback.

  5. Step 5

Make sure that you have met all prerequisites to attend the advanced artists workshop. If you're required to fill out a formal application and include work samples, include your best work. Many advanced workshop instructors select their students based on their work samples. If you are required to write a letter stating your interest and goals in taking the workshop, be convincing.

  6. Step 6

Register for the workshop. Pay all associated fees. Purchase all the required classroom materials.

  7. Step 7

    Attend the workshop classes.

  8. Step 8

Listen to lectures and discussions with an open mind. Learn more about your subject area of art. Ask abstract questions about your art form.

  9. Step 9

Participate in classroom discussions and group work. You will likely be in a workshop with professional and highly advanced artists. Learn from their insight.

  10. Step 10

Complete all your assignments. Turn in all work no matter how elementary the work may seem. The goal of an advanced artists workshop is to build upon preexisting skills and knowledge.

  11. Step 11

Create your final project. Advanced artists workshops usually take artists' skills to the next level. Be prepared to choose your own subject matter and incorporate all you have learned as a beginner and intermediate artist into your advanced project.

  12. Step 12

Have your project graded by the instructor.

  13. Step 13

Finish the workshop. Walk away from the workshop a smarter and more talented artist.
