How to Take an Acting Workshop

Taking an acting workshop is almost a rite of passage for many actors today. Acting workshops provide beginning actors with the knowledge and self-confidence to pursue roles through traditional auditions. Take an acting workshop to define and hone your acting skills.

Instructions

    • 1

Conduct an Internet search for acting workshops to take in your region. While other types of workshops can be available online, it is preferable to search for a physical workshop to attend so that you can become accustomed to the stage.

    • 2

Find an acting workshop that is taught by a professional. Acting workshops should be taught by professional coaches, directors or other actors.

    • 3

Register for your acting workshop. Pay all applicable fees and purchase all required materials.

    • 4

Walk into the acting workshop with the idea that it is an investment in yourself and your career. Treat the acting workshop like an investment in your future.

    • 5

Be introduced to the different aspects of acting. A good acting workshop will cover a lot of acting ground. A great workshop may be able to specialize in one area. Use your time in the acting workshop to determine what areas of acting you need or want to improve upon or study further.

    • 6

Strengthen your technique. Acting workshops exist, in part, to make you a better actor than you are currently. If you or others recognize that you have a talent in a particular area, build upon that talent. For example, if you're a great improviser, take acting workshops that specialize in improving improvisation technique.

    • 7

Make industry contacts. If your instructor also happens to be a casting director, make sure to make yourself available for work.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can choose from plenty of acting workshops in cities like Los Angeles, Chicago and New York City. If you live in one of these cities, take advantage of these opportunities.
