Taking a men's writing workshop can be beneficial for men who are interested in working with other men while building their skills as writers. Men's writing workshops provide males with a special support group that is difficult to find anywhere else.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Conduct an Internet search for men's writing workshops.

  2. Step 2

Narrow down your selections to writing workshops that are near your region and those which you can attend virtually.

  3. Step 3

Read syllabi, course descriptions and workshop philosophies. Identify workshops that will help you reach your goals as a writer.

  4. Step 4

Choose a workshop to attend from the remaining available men's writing workshops. You may be able to attend a workshop based on your age, occupation, sexual orientation, ethnicity, life events or other determining factors.

  5. Step 5

Reserve your place in the men's writing workshop. Pay registration fees and buy all required course materials.

  6. Step 6

    Attend the men's writing workshop.

  7. Step 7

Support other writers in the workshop. Get to know and trust one another. You will probably have to share deeply personal stories or work with each other.

  8. Step 8

Be prepared for some emotional breakthroughs. Men's writing workshops have reputations for opening up men to their inner selves. Know that your instructor and return workshop participants will encourage you to be honest with yourself and the rest of the group.

  9. Step 9

Complete all reading and writing assignments.

  10. Step 10

Finish the workshop. Obtain a certificate of completion. Use your completed work as writing samples or as a jumping point for a larger work.

Tips & Warnings
  • Interestingly, you may be able to reserve a spot at a woman's workshop. Some women's workshops will welcome a male perspective, but space for men is limited.
