How to Find Out of State Obituaries

Even though the idea of finding an obituary from another state sounds difficult, it can be a very easy process if you just follow the steps below. Now, no matter where the deceased lived, you will be able to find it.

Instructions

    • 1

Subscribe to 2 or 3 large newspapers from big cities in the United States. If they are daily, they will each yield many obituaries a day for you.

    • 2

Visit a local library. Use the microfilm machines to scour through the thousands and thousands of newspapers they have available from all over the world. You never know whose obituary you may come across.

    • 3

Search the Internet. There are dozens of great sites that will lead you to listed obituaries throughout the country and world. Some of these sites include the United States Newspaper Obituaries site, The Obituary Links, The Headline Spot, and Who's Dead and Who's Alive. The latter mentioned site gives you the opportunity to search for famous people and find out if they are dead or alive, and where they may be buried, plus links to their obituaries (see Resources below).

    • 4

Contact the relatives of the individual if you know their last name and know them personally. Do not do this with somebody you do not know. By contacting the family, they may give you an old copy of the obituary or tell you how to get one.
