Survive a Bar Fight

While everyone enjoys a night out on the town once in awhile, crowds mixed with alcohol often cause fighting. While a fight is best avoided whenever possible, there are times when a drunk bully may want nothing else but to break your face. If you find yourself confronted with a barroom brawl, there are a few steps that can help you survive.

Instructions

    • 1

Think about your actions before following your adrenaline rush. Ask yourself if your fury is simply caused by a few too many drinks, and question how you will feel about your actions in the morning. Drinking excessively can cause over-sensitivity, so avoiding starting a bar fight is the best method of survival. If you feel too frustrated to hang, leave the bar before something bad happens.

    • 2

Reason with a drunken bully, which isn't easy, but can stop a brawl in its tracks if handled correctly. Maintain your calm and try to speak to your opponent in an open manner. When possible, get your friends to back you. If you can create a human barrier between you and the person threatening you, you may have a chance to get a few words in edgewise. Don't yell, threaten or criticize, as these actions can insight the person and provoke a fight.

    • 3

Prepare for the fight if the person simply will not back down. Keep your eyes on them at all times so that you are not caught off guard. Let the bartender or a bouncer know that you feel threatened so that they may be prepared to stop the fight as soon after it starts as possible. This will also let the bar authorities know that you are trying to avoid a problem, not start one.

    • 4

Be defensive, not offensive in order to survive a bar fight. If you become the attacker, you will most likely be banned from the bar and may even have to face legal repercussions. Your attacker will most likely be very drunk, and you can probably win the fight, however winning does not always spell survival. If you take a few punches and play the victim, you will not be faced with legal charges and will be allowed to stay or return to the bar.

    • 5

Keep your hands in front of your face and lean forward slightly to protect yourself from punches. Chances are the bouncer, bartender or your friends will break up the fight quickly, so the best way to survive a bar fight is to simply protect yourself from the incoming punches.

    • 6

Use the tools around you to shock your opponent. Instead of throwing punches, breaking a bottle over their head or causing serious harm, push a chair in their path, throw a drink in their face or cover them with the fillings of an ashtray. These actions will definitely make your opponent mad, but it will slow them down and allow extra time for someone to help break up the fight without causing physical harm.
