The life-simulating PC game The Sims was wildly popular for years, spawning several expansions and a worldwide fan community. The Sims 2, an updated and more realistic release, has enjoyed greater popularity. A major characteristic of both games is the tendency of fans to modify game objects creatively and post them online. With The Sims 2, EA Games offers an object designer, so more custom objects are available for download.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Buy a Sims 2 expansion and go to TheSims2.ea.com, the official Sims 2 website, to register it (see Resources below for link). You'll have to create a new login if you haven't done so before.

  2. Step 2

Look under "Cool Stuff" on the Sims 2 website. EA Games offers different objects and other Sims 2 downloads every so often, so it pays to check in every couple of weeks. Make sure to visit around every major holiday; something fun is sure to turn up.

  3. Step 3

Check the "Exchange" tab often. This page lets you search for and download objects that other players have created. Hundreds of new objects are uploaded every day, so come back as often as you like. Each object's description tells which expansion is required for each object. From the "Details" page, click "Download This Object."

  4. Step 4

Click on the "Community" tab of the Sims 2 website. Here you'll find links to fan sites that feature thousands of unique customized objects for your Sims 2 game. Most of these are free to download.

  5. Step 5

Visit popular sites such as TheSimsResource.com and Pimp-my-Sims.com for a wide array of free Sims 2 downloads. Pimp My Sims is searchable and offers email newsletters so that you can find out about the new objects without checking in periodically.

Tips & Warnings
  • Realize that not all downloads available, even from fellow Sims fans, are safe. If possible, check out each site for security problems before accepting any downloads.
  • Be aware that some of the downloads at The Sims Resource are free, but some carry a subscription charge.
