How to Use PayPal Buyer Protection on EBay

PayPal is a popular resource that many buyers and sellers use to complete their online transactions. Instead of paying the seller directly for an item, buyers can use PayPal to transfer money to the person's account. PayPpal also offers Buyer Protection, a service that protects your eBay purchases completed through PayPal.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find out what type of coverage you can get on an item. There are different levels of protection under the policy. For the most part, eBay items that are less than $2,000 are covered. You can find this information in PayPal's user agreement.

  2. Step 2

Launch a complaint through PayPal regarding an item. To take advantage of the Buyer Protection policies, issue a complaint through the PayPal website. The complaint feature is for buyers who have not received an eBay item or it was not as described.

  3. Step 3

Wait for PayPal to get back to you on the matter. Once you file a complaint, PayPal is going to contact the seller. This is a way to prompt the seller to work out the problem with you directly.

  4. Step 4

Make a claim against the seller if the initial complaint does not prompt the seller to work out a deal with you. If you are unable to resolve the dispute directly, let PayPal know that you want to issue a claim. A claim can be used to have PayPal secure the refund for you through the person's account.

  5. Step 5

Get more coverage with the PayPal Credit option. If you use the company's credit card, you are offered additional protection on purchases that you make using the card.

Tips & Warnings
  • The complaint feature is found in Paypal's Resolution Center. A link to the Resolution Center is available on the homepage of the website.
  • You must file the complaint against the seller within 45 days of when you made payment. Otherwise, you are not protected under Buyer Protection.

on 9/14/2009 And this will work after PayPal deducts their $25 filing fee. Which means if you make a claim for a $32 item...you're only going to get back $7 max.
