Many people have trouble sleeping at night. They lie awake for hours suffering from insomnia and then feel exhausted the entire next day. If you or someone you know is suffering from insomnia, then you should look into the prescription drug Lunesta.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Speak to your doctor about your insomnia. If anxiety is causing the insomnia, they may recommend another prescription in lieu of a sleep aid like Lunesta.

  2. Step 2

Discuss your sleep patterns. Lunesta can be helpful for insomniacs who have difficulty falling asleep initially or wake in the middle of the night and find that they can't fall back asleep.

  3. Step 3

Work out the dosage with your doctor. The severity of your sleep problem and your age determine the strength of the Lunesta prescription.

  4. Step 4

Get the prescription from your doctor. He may recommend using it for a week or two, then have you report back the changes in your sleeping habits. Remember to note any side effects when you first start taking Lunesta.

  5. Step 5

Take Lunesta before bed. You should be planning to sleep at least eight hours while on Lunesta. You should sleep soundly through the entire night without waking.

  6. Step 6

Plan to use Lunesta for long term use. Luckily, Lunesta is one of the few sleep aids that have been proven to be effective even after taking it for several months.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't take Lunesta if you have been drinking. It can lead to dangerous side effects.
  • Possible side effects of Lunesta include dizziness, memory loss and drowsiness.
