Millions of Americans suffer from insomnia. There are three different kinds or levels of insomnia--chronic, transient or intermittent. If you suffer from any of them, you should keep a sleep diary and consult a doctor. But in the meantime, why not use your insomnia for good. Read on to find out how you can put your insomnia to good use.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step1
Read a book. You are always looking for time to read a book--so do it when you have insomnia. If it is a really good book, you may find yourself sleeping before you know it.
Step2
Do some chores that can be done quietly. Things such as cleaning your bathroom, washing your floors, dusting and other chores that do not make loud noises can be done when you have insomnia. They may tire you out and you will then be able to go to sleep.
Step3
Pay your bills. If you are always putting this job off, now is a good time to do it. It can be done during one of your bouts of insomnia and may be the ticket to putting you to sleep.
Step4
Find some work on the Internet. It is possible to get work that you can do at home on the Internet and now would be a good time to do it. If you can't sleep, at least you can make some money. Alternatively, there may be work you can bring home from the office that you can do when you have insomnia.
Step5
Watch TV and make it a news or history program so you can accomplish two things--if you can't sleep you are learning and if it is boring enough it will put you to sleep and you will have passed another bout of insomnia.
Step6
Play games. This may not be the best use for insomnia but at least you will have fun.
Step7
Consult your doctor. If everything fails and the insomnia continues or gets worse, continue to use your insomnia, but also get help from your doctor. He may be able to give you a prescription sleep aid to help you conquer your insomnia.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't fight insomnia--go with the flow.
  • If insomnia starts to affect your days, it's time to get help.
  • Only use a sleep aid when everything else fails. You can get hooked on them.
