How to Plan a Local Honeymoon

After months of planning and waiting, your wedding day has finally arrived. Sometimes the idea of traveling hours by car or plane to the honeymoon destination isn't appealing. More and more couples are opting for honeymoon destinations that are within an easy driving distance of their home. This allows them more time to enjoy the experience and less time in transit after an already stressful time.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Rent a limo to take you to your destination. With the money you're saving on travel, renting a limo will make the experience seem more extravagant.
Step2
Choose a romantic honeymoon suite at a luxurious local hotel for the first night or two. Most high end hotels want to cater to the newly married, so take advantage of what's available close by.
Step3
Plan a trip to a theme park that's within easy driving distance. Just about every state in America has a theme park or is within a two to three hour drive from one. Theme parks are a great way to have fun together during your honeymoon.
Step4
Check out local historical sights. Often you live in a place that is full of history and culture that most people miss because they don't have time to stop and take a look. A local honeymoon is a great way to get to know your state or area and appreciate all it has to offer.
Step5
Select a wedding date which allows you to fully enjoy a local honeymoon. If you live near the coast choose a time when beach weather is perfect. If you live in colder climates, think about a ski lodge or indoor water park for a winter escape.
Step6
Talk to friends and family about great get away spots they enjoy that are close by. Anything within a three to four hour drive would be a great option for a local honeymoon.
Step7
Take in some local entertainment while on your honeymoon. Go to the theater, spend a night dancing or visit a restaurant you've always wanted to try.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you plan your trip so you really feel like you've been away. Don't answer phones, visit friends or family or make yourself available for work because you're just an hour away.
