How to Drive in a Powder Puff Race

If you are female, love fast cars and have always wanted to be in a race, you should drive in a Powder Puff race. Throughout the country, Powder Puff races take place all year. Women of all ages are driving race cars, competing against other women and having an exciting time driving in Powder Puff races.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Race car
  • Car registration
  • Racing entry form
  • Method of transporting your race car to the track
  • Safety gear

Preparing for the Race

Step1
Check local race tracks to see when Powder Puff races are scheduled.
Step2
Fill out a racing entry form to enter your car in the Powder Puff Derby.
Step3
Transport your race car to the track by either towing it or putting it on a car carrier. Always make sure that you observe all of the highways safety regulations when transporting your race car.
Step4
Register your car at the race track on the day of the race.
Step5
Draw for starting positions against the other Powder Puff race drivers.
Step6
Drive your car to your starting position and get ready for the race to begin.

Driving in the Race

Step1
Dress in your racing gear, including your fire resistant racing suit, driving shoes and helmet.
Step2
Walk to your race car and enter the car through the drivers side window.
Step3
Put on your racing gloves, protective eye wear and your helmet support.
Step4
Secure the straps and buckles for your safety harness and seatbelt.
Step5
Start your engine and slowly drive around the racetrack getting into position for the start of the race.
Step6
Approach the starting line and watch for the checkered flag to begin the race. Once the race begins drive quickly around the track. Try to pass all of the other cars during the laps of the race.
Step7
Cross the finish line first and win the race.

Tips & Warnings

  • Many Powder Puff racers are the mothers, wives, sisters and girlfriends of male racers that normally race at the local track.
  • Powder Puff Racing takes place on different types of tracks. The race tracks can be blacktop or dirt, oval or figure eight. There are also Powder Puff races that take place off road, in the desert or in mud.
  • Girl Scouts in West Texas have a Powder Puff race where they drive wooden cars that they have built.
