How to Use the Format Menu in Microsoft Publisher

Install Microsoft Publisher on your computer after you have verified its compatibility with your operating system. Also be sure you have adequate memory and storage space.

Get familiar with the various sub-menus by clicking on "Format." Select any title to view the details of that title's function(s) and options.

Start using the "Format" menu by changing the size, typeface and other effects of your document's text, such as boldface, small caps or shadow. Highlight the copy you want to modify. Select "Font" under the "Format" Menu and make your selections. Hit "OK" to apply your changes.

Set your document's indents and tabs by clicking on the appropriate selection under the "Format" Menu. Make your choices and then click "OK" to apply your changes.

Alter the amount of space between lines of text and auto fit your text into a specifically sized text box by accessing those choices under the "Format" Menu.

Customize a color scheme by selecting "Color Schemes" under "Format." To the left of your document there will be a "Color Schemes" panel. Scroll down to the bottom and double click where it says "Custom Color Scheme." When the Task Pane opens, click on the "New" arrow for whichever color you would like to change. Choose one of the available colors or click on "More Colors" to make your own color.

Hold down the same arrow used to change color and click on "Fill Effects." Select a tint or shade of the color for your fill color. Click "OK." When you return to the "Color Scheme" Task Pane, hit "Save Scheme" and give your scheme its own name.

Save your work. You may choose the option to "Save As" a template for future use or as a Publisher file.
