How to Learn Military Terminology

If you find yourself among a group of military gurus, chances are you have no idea what they are saying unless you are part of the military as well. Each military branch has a jargon all their own and each are proud of that fact. Some words have been placed in the military lexicon because of a person or place which taught valuable lessons.

Instructions

1. Hang around many military personnel. Once in the military, always in the military, and it is very hard for some soldiers to get out of their everyday military speak because they use it often.

2. Watch military movies and films. Today directors and scriptwriters try to be militarily accurate with weapons and language they use.

3. Read everything and anything you can on military missions or even a military terminology dictionary. The more you study, the easier it will become for you to understand a military conversation.

4. Learn what the different patches worn by each person means. For instance in the Army one yellow stripe with a green border means the person is an enlisted private first class. Two strips is an enlisted sergeant. Each person in the military uses a base military jargon on top of their specialty.
