Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Contact the regional office for OSHA in your area to find a list of all available books on safety standards. A representative for OSHA may be able to order safety books for you, or recommend specific sources where you can buy additional learning materials. You should start, however, with the OSHA handbook, which contains all of the material you will need to be compliant with all OSHA safety and health standards.
Step2
Buy OSHA safety books that are tailored to your specific type of business. For instance, a general contractor may wish to buy books that address electrical hazards or proper lockout/tagout procedures. A manager of a large retail operation may wish to concentrate on proper lifting techniques or how to organize material safety data sheets for cleaning and maintenance products.
Step3
Purchase OSHA safety books that will help your business to be compliant with all government standards. Such books may include how to retain OSHA files properly for your business, how to conduct monthly safety meetings, how to order material safety data sheets for hazardous materials in your workplace and how to handle an OSHA inspection on a construction site properly.
Step4
Look for OSHA safety books that cover all appropriate safety standards in one single volume. These books, such as the ones put out by CCH Publishing, can be tailored to specific industries, and they may contain kits that include additional learning materials to make your entire company compliant with OSHA standards. The CCH books are available online through the OSHA Campus website (see Resources below).
Step5
Log on to the official OSHA website for a listing of books, posters, pocket guides and quick reference cards that address safety issues (see Resources below).
