Things You'll Need:
- Outfit for date
- Essential grooming tools (toothbrush, comb or brush, moisturizer or lotion, soap)
-
Step 1
Select an outfit that's well-suited to your body type. If you're a woman with a trim waist and larger hips, for instance, try a belted skirt or pants and avoid straight-cut dresses. If you're a man concerned about the state of your belly, don't try to hide it under a shapeless shirt--try a dark, tailored blazer for a sharp, distinguished look.
-
Step 2
Find out for certain where you're going on your date. A slinky black dress may look hot, but it will be completely inappropriate for a date at the movies or a bowling alley. If your date wants to surprise you, hedge your bets with a pair of sleek but understated black pants, a sexy blouse and a sweater in case you need to cover up. Pressed slacks and a button-down shirt are always safe bets for men.
-
Step 3
Select a hairstyle that will require little to no maintenance during the date. If you want to try something new, make sure that you practice this style in advance.
-
Step 4
Choose jewelry or accessories that convey your personality, but take care not to wear something that was given to you by an ex. Chances are good that your date will compliment your necklace/watch/bracelet/ring and ask where you got it.
-
Step 5
Take a bath or shower as close to the time of your date as possible. If you have a hot date planned for after work, try to schedule time to stop at home first--especially if your job puts you in contact with food, refuse, chemicals or anything else that might be unsanitary or carry odors.
-
Step 6
Moisturize your skin, shave, brush your teeth and style your hair. If you have some extra time, use a loofah to exfoliate your skin in the shower, making it smooth to the touch.
-
Step 7
Smile! Even if the rest of your look is working, your appearance is nothing without an attractive smile. Use it with eye contact.
