The use of dual monitors by design professionals and others in need of additional desktop space has become more prevalent. New users of dual monitor systems may have the incorrect perception that each monitor must have the same background because of its connection to the same tower. There is an effective technique for PC users who want to have different wallpaper on dual monitors.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Begin the process of setting up different wallpapers for dual monitors by right clicking on the desktop. You can move your cursor to a clear space on your desktop and press the right mouse key. Scroll down the menu and tap the "Properties" icon.
Step2
Move your mouse over the "Desktop" tab in "Properties" to adjust the settings for your monitors. Users who have Microsoft Vista will be able to access the same menu by pressing "Personalize" from the "Desktop" menu.
Step3
Change your wallpaper settings for both monitors by clicking on the "Customize Desktop" button. This button sits at the bottom of the desktop screen and allows you to utilize advanced features for desktop backgrounds.
Step4
Press the "Web" button within the "Customize Desktop" menu to access the picture you want for your second monitor. This screen will display a number of websites including your current home page, as well as other options to bring up a second image on your desktop.
Step5
Click on the "New" button in the "Web" menu to choose your second wallpaper. You can browse your current folder of images or type in the URL of a web item that you want to activate for your desktop.
Step6
Confirm your choice of image by pressing "OK" on the item you have selected as wallpaper. You should press "Apply" within the "Customize Desktop" menu to complete your search for another image.
Step7
Carry the second image from the first monitor to the second monitor by clicking and dragging at the top of the image. You should right click on the second desktop and select the "Lock Web Items" icon to keep the image in place permanently.

Tips & Warnings

  • Ensure the connection of both monitors to your PC tower before you add different wallpapers. You should make sure both monitors are plugged in to your tower and switch the power button on and off. You can also tighten the computer cable on the back of your tower to make sure you have access to both monitors.
