A tagged image file (TIF) format allows a user to store multiple images within one file for easy storage. Designers and photographers use TIF files to compress their images down to a reasonable file size while keeping images accessible for editing. You can insert wallpaper into a TIF file in a matter of minutes to secure your favorite images.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Open the appropriate folder from your computer to access photos that you want to insert within a TIF file. You should keep this folder open until you have opened and completed TIF storage to allow for easy transfers.
Step2
Access your TIF file before you begin moving wallpaper images and other files to avoid wasted effort. You should open the folder for your TIF and place it right next to your "Photo" or "Wallpaper" folder on the desktop.
Step3
Copy every image that you want to insert into a TIF file and drag your selection with the click of a button. You can click at the corner of one file, drag your mouse over a number of selections and click at the center of your selection. You need to hold the left button down until the images are transferred into the TIF file.
Step4
Utilize the lossless data compression feature of a TIF file for permanent storage of old wallpaper. You can right click on a TIF file and select the "File Compression" option to decrease the amount of space needed for storage on your hard drive.
Step5
Restrict the total file size for individual TIF files to 2 GB for maximum effect. You should consider opening several TIF files for large wallpaper and save these files on CDs or an external drive if you do not plan on making any changes.
Step6
Assign tags to each image within a multi-item TIF file for easy distinction. Your tags allow you to differentiate between multiple versions of the same image by letting you to define dimensions and specific details about each image.
Step7
Register your TIF tags with Adobe to ensure that there is no replication or confusion with other files. Adobe allows individuals to register a limited number of files within one form to avoid overloading TIF libraries and storage (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings

  • Place your TIF file on your desktop for easy access and use during editing. The desktop location for a TIF file means that you can take a wallpaper picture from your "Photo" folder and drag it to the TIF.
