Latina Action Day is a conference held by Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE) in Sacramento, California on the second or third Tuesday each April. Latina Action Day assembles 600 of the leading Latina political leaders in the state of California, and allows them to speak in an open forum to the community.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Find out when and where the Latina Action Day conference will be held. Generally, this will be either the second or third Tuesday in April, depending upon the date of the Governor's review of the state budget each May. This timing allows the conference to organize and have a voice about their particular budget concerns each year.
Step2
Obtain a schedule for the events on Latina Action Day. The conference usually starts just after lunch with an overview meeting discussing the current state budget, followed by several "town hall" meetings and lectures that focus on specific concerns in the Hispanic community. The conference then finishes with the Celebrating Latina Leadership dinner.
Step3
Make reservations for your air travel and hotel accommodations well in advance of the Latina Action Day conference. There are many other conferences and political activities scheduled in the weeks leading up to the final approval of the state budget, and you may find yourself scrambling for the best rates if you wait until the last minute.
Step4
Discuss your participation in Latina Action Day with local Hispanic leaders in your area, such as state senators, assemblywomen and other Latina political leaders. Not only will you be able to give feedback about your concerns within the Hispanic community, but you may help develop a consensus about the important issues and show your support and solidarity.
Step5
Log on to the HOPE website in order to get specific information about how to attend the conference and to find out about peripheral events that may occur in the days preceding and following Latina Action Day (see Resources below). You may be able to accompany the leaders of the conference to the State Capitol Building to deliver the message to the Governor.

Tips & Warnings

  • Latina Action Day enjoys the full support of the office of the Governor of the State of California and his administration, as well as the Republican Latino Caucus and the California Latino Legislative Caucus.
