From Quick Guide: Casserole Recipes Guide
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 lb. of ham, bacon or sausage
  • 6 to 7 slices of bread
  • 1/2 lb. shredded colby cheese
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 1/2 tsp. of dry mustard or celery salt (whichever you prefer)
  • 1 tbsp. of salt
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 9-by-13-inch baking dish

    Shopping List

  1. Step 1

Purchase grocery items and store refrigerated goods until you are ready to cook. The night before you plan to serve this dish, begin preparation.

  2. Step 2

Cook meat of your choice (ham, bacon or sausage) and cut into cubes or bite-sized pieces. Make sure to drain excess fat from cooked meat.

  3. Step 3

Cut bread into cubes and separate 1/4 of the cubed bread for the last step.

  4. Step 4

Grease 9-by-13 pan and add cubed bread, meat and cheese. Beat eggs, milk and seasonings in a separate bowl and pour over top of the layered bread, cheese and meat.

  5. Step 5

Top off casserole with remaining 1/4 cubed bread. Finish by melting butter in a separate bowl and pouring over the top. Cover tightly and store in the fridge overnight.

  6. Step 6

The next morning, preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Cook for one hour and serve hot.

Tips & Warnings
  • Frozen bread works best for cutting into cubes.
