As a romance author I give away a couple of my romance e-books as a way to entice new readers to become fans, and because I like giving things away. The truth is I am not the only romance author who does this, in fact every romance author I know, and believe me I know quite a few, has at least one freebie that they have available for anyone who wants a copy. Giving away free romance e-books just makes sense when it comes to marketing your fiction writing because if someone reads your free romance e-book, they are going to be more likely to purchase your other romance e-books. That being said, I’ll bet you’re wondering where to find all these free romance e-books. It’s actually quite easy to do.

1. Join author and reader groups online, Yahoo has a lot of them. Most romance authors, myself included post to these groups about how to get access to our free romance e-books.

2. Do a Google search for romance authors and then visit romance author’s websites. This is another place that you can discover if a romance author has a free romance e-book to give away. They will often have the link on their website.

3. Sign up for author newsletters. Many authors post a chapter a month of a serial novel to their newsletter, and you can save each newsletter until you have the whole romance book.

4. Visit author blogs. Some authors use a blog for their main website now, and they will post a download link to their free romance e-books there.

5. Participate in online author chats. Many romance e-books are given away by authors during online chats. The nice thing about these is that they are not usually a book that the author normally gives away but one that is for sale to everyone else.

Tips & Warnings

• After you’ve read a romance author’s free e-book, send them a message with feedback. This is a sure fire way to ensure that you will receive or be notified of any more free romance e-books in the future.
• If a romance author uses a Yahoo group for their newsletter, then be sure and check the Files section of the group, this is where most authors put their free romance e-books. You can then download at your leisure.
• If you don’t mind that a romance book can only be read online, and does not come as a file you can download to your computer, then do a Google search for free online romance reading. You’ll find plenty of romance books and shorter stories that can be read online. Many authors post short romance stories on their website as well.
• Don’t share any free romance e-books that you win in author’s chats or on e-loop discussions if it is one that is normally for sale. Even if the romance e-book is one that is out of print, this is a violation of the author’s copyright.
