Who couldn't love a face like this?

It’s a sad fact of dating: not everyone will love your cat as much as you do. But what do you do when you meet someone who would be perfect if only he could warm up to Fluffy? The good news is, most guys will come around; and in the meantime, there are things you can do in the meantime to get him to like your cat. Read on to learn more.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cat toys
  • Scratching post
  1. Step 1

Most of the guys out there who claim to dislike cats have the false idea that cats are unmanageable and aloof. If you have a well-disciplined cat, it’ll be easier to get your boyfriend to like her. Show him that your cat is capable of staying off the kitchen counter and not scratching the furniture.

  2. Step 2

Show your boyfriend that your cat is just as affectionate as a dog, but differently affectionate. If your cat greets you at the door or sleeps on your bed, don’t discourage that behavior because your boyfriend is around. If anything, you should encourage your cat to show off her lovable side.

  3. Step 3

Play up your cat’s intelligence. Every cat has a special cat-like talent. Get your boyfriend to like your cat by showing off your cat’s ability to play fetch or open the refrigerator door.

  4. Step 4

Make your boyfriend feel just as loved as your cat. One of the reasons your boyfriend may not initially like your cat is simple jealousy--you shower your cat with unconditional love and human relationships are always going to be more complicated than that. Don’t insist that your cat be allowed in the room while you’re having sex, and don’t push your boyfriend away during cuddle time so the cat can sit in your lap instead.

  5. Step 5

Encourage your boyfriend to play with your cat. It’s hard not to like a pouncing, playful cat. Any interaction is a step in the right direction.

Tips & Warnings
  • Give your cat treats for being good around your boyfriend. For example, if your cat makes it through a meal without harassing him for food, Fluffy deserves a treat for not trying to take advantage of the new face in the room.
  • If you can’t get your boyfriend to like your cat, it might be time to reconsider the relationship. If a man can’t learn to love what’s important to the woman he loves, he might not be a good man at all.

on 1/18/2009 Good tips. I've met men that "think" they don't like cats...until they live with one and see how cool they are.
