Not Get Hurt in a Friends with Benefits Relationship

Friends with benefits are fun--but it can soon lead to trouble if you don't watch out! Take these steps to avoid getting a broken heart!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A friend with benefits
  • Emotions
  • Observance
  1. Step 1

Getting involved with a friends with benefits is risky. But avoiding getting hurt will help you, your friend, and your friendship. When involving yourself in this type of relationship the first step is to make sure you don't have feelings for each other.

  2. Step 2

Keep open lines of communication through it all. In bed or out of bed, make sure that you both have the same expectations of not getting into a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship.

  3. Step 3

Watch your partner carefully. If they show any signs of having a crush, ask them about it, and if you don't feel comfortable end the arrangement immediately. The same goes for yourself...if you feel the least bit attracted to the other person in a romantic way, talk to your partner about it and cut yourself off.

  4. Step 4

Possibly most important is to keep things discreet. If you blab about your sex life to mutual friends then it just creates drama, rumors, and messes along with awkward situations. By keeping things in the dark you have much better chances of not having hurt feelings, of not hurting your partner, of keeping the friendship throughout it all, and of staying 'in the dark' much longer.

Tips & Warnings
  • None of these steps are guaranteed to work. The most important thing is to watch yourself.
  • Your heart may betray you.
