How to Go Wine Tasting in L.A.

Wine tasting in the vineyards of Napa Valley is extraordinary. But, when you don't have time to make the trip, head to some of these local L.A. favorites to have an evening of wine tasting with friends.

1. Take a trip to Bottlerock, Silverlake Wine Shop or Vinoteca Farfalla in Los Angeles for wine tasting fun. Locals head to these unpretentious shops and bars for wine tasting in a casual, yet chic atmosphere. You can come here clad in jeans, slacks or skirts. Depending on your budget, choose wines that are lower on the price scale, or splurge on the wine you've always wanted to taste.
2. This is a time for experimentation. Try wines you wouldn't ordinarily order with dinner. A beaujolais or resling can be a nice change of pace from the ordinary dry wines.
3. If you order spicy appetizers, avoid sweeter wines. They don't compliment one another very well and you will likely burn your mouth.
4. If you have the money and the desire to create a wine tasting of your own, shop at Du Vin Wines & Spirits for an eclectic collection of wines. The shop itself does not host wine tastings but you won't find a bigger abundance of vino anywhere else in the city.
