A lovely rustic breakfast or tea-time snack. Oatmeal is good for you; but it goes down so much easier this way! Read on to learn more.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 3/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup butter
  • 3 cups rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  1. Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

  2. Step 2

Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt in a large bowl.

  3. Step 3

Cut the butter into small squares. Add to the bowl, and cut it into the flour with a pastry cutter. You can use your hands instead if you do it quickly so the butter doesn't get too soft. You want to end up with the butter in small bits, the size of raisins and smaller.

  4. Step 4

Stir in the oats and raisins.

  5. Step 5

Add the buttermilk and stir until moistened.

  6. Step 6

Knead lightly in the bowl until the dough forms a ball.

  7. Step 7

Turn the dough out onto a floured countertop.

  8. Step 8

Roll dough into a log, cut in three pieces, and flatten each piece into a round 8 inch cake.

  9. Step 9

Put the rounds onto an ungreased baking sheet and cut into wedges with a pizza cutter.

  10. Step 10

Bake for about 20 minutes until they're golden brown.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try other kinds of dried fruit instead of raisins.
