From Quick Guide: Safe Holidays
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A weather resistant extension cord
  • Extra light bulbs for the lights that blow out
  • Extra fuses
  • Fuse box
  • Flashlight

How to replace fuses in the old fashion boxes.

  1. Step 1

You are tackling a problem that can be hard, or made easy. You first need to safeguard the outdoor lighting system. Does the cord lay in wet or snow? If so, you need to wrap the cords in plastic and tape them with black or gray tape that is suitable for bad weather. This might be the problem of fuses blowing out.

  2. Step 2

Next step is to go down to the basement or where you have a fuse box. Check to see if the fuses are good. Notice if the inside of the fuse is broken, if broken the fuse is no good. Notice what watts you have in the fuse box. Are they adequate for the amount of voltage you want them to carry for the extra electrical requirement.

  3. Step 3

The problem could be that you have another strong wiring requirement, plugged into the same outlet. You should check to see if you need to unplug one of the plugged up wiring to the same outlet. You can also notice that when the fuse blows, what other fuses are still good, and providing electricity to your other outlets.

  4. Step 4

WE have eliminated the fuse box requirement Next we wrapped the outside extension cord or the outside outlet to see if it was adequate. If you have the TV or computer plugged into the same outlet as the outside lights you may have to eliminate one of the outlets in a room being used at the same time. You have an overload. You can't use the washer and dryer at the same time as using other plugged in appliances and electrical outlets. Check to see where the overload is and unplug the appliance.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep extra fuses at the fuse box and a flash light handy to see the fuse box and how to get to the box.
  • Have a complete supply of fuses.
  • Remember the two top fuses, operate the whole flow of electricity to the house.
  • Test the lower fuses one by one to see which one has blown out.
  • Be careful not to overload your voltage to your house, overloaded fuses could cause an electrical fire in your walls or other places in your home.
