Things You'll Need:
- Putting green
- Golf balls
- Time to practice
-
Step 1
The old adage rings true: "Drive for show, putt for dough." Tiger Woods wins so often because he is the best putter on the PGA Tour. Do you want to win your next bet with buddies? Be like Tiger--be confident. There is no substitution for confidence when putting.
-
Step 2
Stand 3 feet behind the ball and survey the contours of the green between your ball and the hole. Next, go to the opposite side of the hole and look back at your ball to ensure that you see the proper line.
-
Step 3
Return to your initial position behind the ball. Squat behind the ball and look again at the green between your ball and the hole. This view from closer to the ground is essential.
-
Step 4
Once you see the line the putt must roll on to go in the hole, stand up and position yourself far enough away from the ball to take several practice swings. Like Tiger Woods, train yourself to make the exact same practice swings every time. Let the tension drain out of your arms and shoulders as you take your practice swings.
-
Step 5
Visualize the ball dropping in the hole as you stand over the putt. Focus on the line you imagined and be confident.
-
Step 6
Relax and hit the putt firmly enough that if you miss, the golf ball rolls about 2 to 3 feet beyond the hole. Good golfers know that a putt left short has no chance of going in. When Tiger's putting well, his misses are several feet long.
-
Step 7
Repeat these steps for 2 or 3 hours a day and you will soon be putting like Tiger Woods, the greatest golfer of his generation or any other.
