Holiday parties are teeming with diet disaster items: think mini quiches, pigs in a blanket, and sausage balls. Add to that a few cocktails and before you know it, a whole day’s worth of calories has partied with you. Here are a few ways to detour this dilemma.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Focus on the raw vegetables on the veggie tray. Also go for lean meats, either thinly sliced or grilled.

  2. Step 2

Olives and nuts make for healthy options if you snack in small portions.

  3. Step 3

For beverages, stick with wine or light beer, drink a glass of water between each drink, but limit yourself to one or two alcoholic beverages. Stay away from the fruity cocktails, mulled wine (more sugar), and eggnog. Especially eggnog.

  4. Step 4

Stay away from fried or breaded items.

Tips & Warnings
  • Before the party, eat a healthy snack, such as edamame, whole grain crackers with peanut butter, or a cup of yogurt.
