Bullying is undoubtedly a growing problem in many school systems throughout the country. Because of the increasing amount of violent acts in school within the past decade, anti-bullying policies and other preventative measures are being practiced as a way to combat the problem.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First, decide if your child's school has a bullying problem. Talk to other parents and see what their thoughts are on the issue. If you believe you can gain enough support, talk to the administration.

  2. Step 2

Discuss with the appropriate officials what can be done to prevent bullying in schools. Talk about drafting and implementing an anti-bullying policy for the following school year.

  3. Step 3

Research other similar policies that have been used in the area. Examine the contents and use the documents as a reference when deciding what should ultimately be included in the policy.

  4. Step 4

Acquire as many supporters as you can to show the school and board of education that bullying is a growing problem that needs to be examined more closely. After that, it's all up to them.

Tips & Warnings
  • If unsuccessful at first, don't give up immediately. Sometimes anti-bullying policies can take months or years to properly implement.
  • Petitions can be a good idea, but officials are often offended by them. Talk with the appropriate personnel to discuss what would be the most effective means of displaying public concern.
