A feghoot is a short story or short-short story that ends in a groan-worthy joke or pun. It's named after a series of stories based upon the character Ferdinand Feghoot. The feghoot is usually science fiction or fantasy. Feghoots are fun to write, and there are some markets that still publish them.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sense of humor
  • A groan-worthy pun or joke
  1. Step 1

Come up with your pun or joke. The more awful the punchline, the better the feghoot will be. Think about something that will make people roll their eyes and shake their heads. The pun or joke may come at the end of the story, but it'll be easier to build the story around it if you know where you're headed.

  2. Step 2

Come up with a scenario that will lead you to your punchline. It can read like a fable, parable or a regular story.

  3. Step 3

Write your feghoot. Shorter stories work better because you get to your punchline quicker.

  4. Step 4

Read over your feghoot and make sure your setup works with the joke at the end. Do any necessary revisions.

  5. Step 5

Share your feghoot. Enjoy all of the cringing and groaning you get.
