How to Choose Garden Furniture

Garden furniture is a vague term. Read on to learn specifics about livening up your backyard.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Garden furniture is the furniture that is made specifically for the backyard. It can be made from treated woods, vinyl, plastics and metal.

  2. Step 2

The treated woods used for garden furniture are numerous. Cedar, oak, pine, teak and cheery wood are some prime examples of treated wood made garden furniture in mind. Vinyl garden furniture is making a comeback, as interior designers on both coasts try to keep up with the demand. While it is in vogue, vinyl garden furniture does have its appeal. Many fabric companies are coming on board to manufacture vinyl garden furniture. It has the appearance of leather without the expenditure. Since vinyl is not the best water resistant material, and direct sunlight can alter the color, it makes little sense to use this material.

  3. Step 3

The idea of using plastic garden furniture makes sense economically. It is mass produced and relatively inexpensive. It is lightweight, so it can be portable when needed. If you are going to a party and the host does not have enough chairs, it would be no problem bringing some, as long as you had a vehicle large enough to accommodate them. There are numerous colors and styles to choose from, and most retail stores carry them so it would not be hard to find.

  4. Step 4

Metal garden furniture can encompass aluminum to iron. Metal chairs can be dispersed throughout the backyard, especially near the garden, to give it a dash of color. With proper maintenance, metal garden furniture will last many years. One minor disadvantage that can be easily solved is rust. Not all metal garden furniture rust, but if you notice rust developing, you can take a steel wool pad and gently swipe it away and then apply a protective coat of paint to ensure its productivity.

  5. Step 5

There are a number of different types of garden furniture to choose. The cost, the type and the style should determine the choice you make. The cost is the most important consideration when you are on a budget. The type of garden furniture is up to the person buying it. He or she may have a proclivity toward one type versus another. The style is an individualistic choice since your preference may not appeal to someone else.
