This is a fun way for you and the kids to keep track of how much rain you get, plus you get the added satisfaction of making it yourselves.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Two-liter plastic bottle
  • Permanent markers
  • Scissors

Step1
Cut off most of the colored outer plastic bottom, leaving just a circle at the base so it will stand up.
Step2
Cut off the top of the bottle approximately eight inches from the base.
Step3
Draw or trace a pattern on the outside and color. Use a ruler and a marker to draw a scale on the outside of the bottle.
Step4
Invert the top of the bottle and place it inside the bottle and secure with tape. Set the bottle on a flat surface outside and wait for the rain.
