How to Prepare an Image for Scanning

Although it is possible to draw directly onto your computer these days if you have an expensive tablet or light pen it is also possible to scan your image from a drawing with a little preparation. This article refers to the Adobe Photoshop 5.5 program to process the scanned image. Read on to learn how to prepare an image for scanning.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ink pen
  • Scanner
  • Image processing software
  1. Step 1
    PITT brush pen
    PITT brush pen

    Trace the image with your pen. The PITT brush pen provides a variation in line but an architectural drawing pen should work fine as well.

  2. Step 2
    Erasing lines
    Erasing lines

    When the ink has dried erase the pencil lines from the image. Try to get as much as possible off without warping the paper.

  3. Step 3
    Scanning image
    Scanning image

    Place the image in your scanner. When your scanner has captured the image to your liking accept the scan. Do not worry about stray pencil lines, you can clean them up in an image processing program.
