Macaronatha is a tomato-based meat sauce that uses beef or lamb. A hint of cinnamon flavors this delicious sauce. Pour it over macaroni, spaghetti, or your favorite pasta.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 2 medium onions, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup butter or olive oil
  • 1 1/2 lb lean ground beef (or lamb)
  • 1 tbsp oregano
  • 1 can tomato paste
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup dry wine
  • 1 cinnamon stick

Step1
Sauté the onions and garlic in the butter or oil until the onions are soft.
Step2
Add the meat. Cook until the meat is brown.
Step3
Stir in salt, pepper, oregano and tomato paste.
Step4
Pour in the water and wine.
Step5
Add the cinnamon stick. Mix the sauce until all ingredients are well combined.
Step6
Simmer over low heat for one hour, stirring occasionally.
Step7
Pour the sauce over cooked macaroni or pasta.

Tips & Warnings

  • Sprinkle grated parmesan or roman cheese over the sauce and pasta before serving.
  • Use lean beef or lamb. If the meat is too fatty, drain before adding the spices and tomato paste
