How to send mail from Gmail using another domain name?

Your official mail server is not working but you need to send a mail NOW and you don't want to use any webmail to do that.

Use this helpful Gmail feature.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • gmail account
  • another mail ID which will be added to Gmail
  1. Step 1

    Login to your Gmail account and click settings

  2. Step 2

    Click on Accounts tab. Then click "Add another email address"

  3. Step 3

    Add your Name and the other Email ID.

  4. Step 4

    Click on Send Verification. You will get a mail with the code.

  5. Step 5

    Add the code in the Gmail dialog box and click Verify

  6. Step 6

    You are now ready to send mails from the other ID using Gmail. While sending a mail simply select the other address by selecting the value from "From" field.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you get a reply to this mail it will be sent your other ID and not Gmail
  • There are other options which you can exploit while setting up this ID.
  • In some versions of Outlook it will not work. The domain will be displayed as Gmail

on 12/13/2007 Hey thanks for the information ahead of time so we can all set it up before we have issues or can't get into the other email account at the time. It is nice to know these little tricks ahead of time.
